Description
No 3 Town Gate is a former pair of dwellings that is part of a terrace, dating from the mid-18th century with alterations from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of thinly coursed rubble with struck pointing and features quoins. It has a stone slate roof and two ashlar stacks.
The south elevation has a later central doorway. To the left, there is a 4-light double chamfered stone mullioned window, although two of the outer mullions have been removed. To the right, there is a large 2-light window from the mid-19th century, which appears to have been altered from an earlier window. On the first floor, there are two single light windows from the mid-19th century, and an early window that has been blocked. Additionally, there is one 4-light double chamfered stone mullioned window.
On the north elevation, there are two doorways side by side, one of which is blocked, both featuring millstone grit lintels. At the west end, there is a fire-window with a chamfered surround and a segmental false arch. The west gable has one blocked 2-light double chamfered stone mullioned window at first floor level.
