Description

Lower Wood Farm, dated 1767 (as inscribed on a datestone), is a farm terrace and barn constructed of coursed rubble with quoins. It has a pitched stone slate roof, with rooflights on the barn. The barn features a coped gable and moulded footstones. The south elevation has a ground floor with two doors, each featuring large lintels. Above the doors is the datestone reading “G E E 1767”. The south elevation also has one 6-light stone mullioned window, set back, and one 3-light stone mullioned window, also set back. Additionally, there are two 4-light stone mullioned windows with recessed mullions, the windows containing modern casements set within stone surrounds. The first floor of the south elevation contains two 3-light stone mullioned windows with recessed mullions, two 2-light stone mullioned windows with recessed mullions, three 3-light stone mullioned windows with recessed mullions (two of which have had one mullion removed), and one 2-light stone mullioned window with recessed mullions. A loading door provides access to the barn. The north elevation features a ground floor with one 5-light stone mullioned window, one 2-light stone mullioned window with a recessed mullion, two 2-light stone mullioned windows with recessed mullions (one of which has one light blocked), and one later single light window. A stone water spout is also present. The first floor of the north elevation contains two 2-light stone mullioned windows, three later single light windows, and one 3-light stone mullioned window with recessed mullions.
