Description
Oakes Baptist Church is a mid-19th century building located on Oakes Road in Lindley. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a pitched slate roof. The church has two storeys and a basement, with a moulded eaves cornice, plat bands, and continuous impost moulding. The basement is vermiculated, and the corners are accentuated with rusticated quoins.
The church has six bays on the sides and five bays on the front, which is topped with a full-width pediment. A semi-circular lunette is located in the tympanum, adorned with plate tracery, a vermiculated keystone, and acanthus carvings on either side. The plinth spans the full width of the three central bays, flanked by rusticated pilasters.
There is a one-storey porch featuring rusticated quoins, a full entablature with a modillion cornice, and a blocking course. The porch is flanked by three-quarter columns that support double doors with six moulded panels, moulded imposts, and voissoirs. The first-floor windows are embellished with vermiculated keystones and panelled aprons.
