Description

The Old Post Office is a former post office, now functioning as shop and office premises, built around 1910 in a Free Classical style. It features an ashlar front and a stone slate roof, and is two storeys high. The central part of the building has four bays and slightly projecting wings on both the left and right sides. The left wing is wider and topped with an open segmental pediment, while the right wing has an open triangular pediment. Both wings are connected by a moulded bracketed eaves cornice with a blocking course.

The central section includes a round arched entrance that is adorned with a dentilled segmental pediment supported by large fluted brackets. There are round arched windows on the ground floor, with one window on the left and two on the right, each featuring a moulded segmental hood mould and a large projecting keystone. The first floor has four 2-light windows, which are set in reveals with engaged colonnettes and a central mullion, all resting on a continuous moulded sill band.

The left wing contains a window and a door, both topped with a moulded swept hood. The window features a large key, while the doorway has an oculus above it, also with a hood and key. The first floor of this wing has a round arched window with a large key, flanked by smaller lights. The right wing has a slender ground floor window with a swept hood and a first floor round arched window with a hood, both also featuring a large keystone.
