Description

Mytholm Cottage is a house dated 1763, constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and a single-storey attached building at the rear. The south front features a symmetrical three-bay facade with quoins, a plinth, a band, and two-light flat-faced mullioned windows that have plain stone surrounds and raised stonework. The central bay contains a doorway that retains the original repositioned monolithic jambs, which have been altered to form a wide French window. Above this is a decorative date plaque inscribed with "K". On either side of the central bay are sash windows. The gable ends have stacks, and the left-hand return wall is watershot, featuring a blocked first-floor taking-in door and a former cross-window, along with a two-light window at the apex. The quoins on this side are flush.

Attached to the rear is a gabled building that has quoins, a doorway with a tie-stone, and a six-light chamfered mullioned window with a king mullion, along with a gable stack. This single-storey rear building was a dye house and may be slightly older than the main house. Inside this rear building, there is a principal truss with a diagonally set ridge and a large fireplace with a plain stone surround. The main house features a staircase with a ramped handrail and paired turned balusters for each riser.
