Description

Blacker Hall Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1800, constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys tall and has a T-shaped layout with a rear wing. The facade is symmetrical with three bays and features channelled stonework, raised window and door surrounds that suggest it may have been intended for rendering originally. The central doorway has monolithic jambs and a margin-glazed overlight, flanked by 16-pane sash windows and 12-pane unequally-hung sashes above, all with plain stone surrounds and slightly projecting sills. The gables are coped with shaped kneelers.

At the rear, two finely-dressed lateral stacks flank the wing, which has three narrow 15-pane sash windows, with one located above the middle window and a finely-dressed gable stack. There is a tall stair window with a doorway inserted beneath it on the right-hand return of the wing. The left-hand return features a 1½-storey lean-to of slightly later date, with similar windows and a doorway.

Inside, the front door opens into a long entrance hall with an archway leading to the rear wing, which includes a cross-passage and a simple staircase with stick balusters. The parlour to the left has windows with architraves and shutters, along with a moulded plaster cornice. The parlour chamber includes a partitioned dressing room with an inner glazed window engraved "John Robinson Wood August 5 1847". One of the rear chambers retains its original fireplace, complete with an architrave, moulded shelf, and a decorative cast-iron grate.
