Description

Grove House is a house built around 1810, with some later alterations. It is constructed of ashlar stone with ashlar dressings and features a shallow pitched hipped roof made of stone slate, along with one ridge stack. The house is two storeys tall.

The main front has five windows and a central doorway that has a moulded ashlar surround and a half-glazed door with an overlight. On either side of the doorway are two 12-pane glazing bar sashes, each with rusticated ashlar lintels. Above the doorway, there is a central 12-pane sash with a plain ashlar surround, flanked by two similar sashes that also have rusticated lintels.

The right side of the house has two 12-pane sashes on each floor, while the left side features a single-storey 20th-century extension. The rear façade displays three windows with a central doorway, and above it is a tall round-headed staircase window. On both floors, there are single 3-light casement windows on either side.

Inside, there is a single flight and return staircase with a turned baluster and a moulded handrail. The interior also includes a fine moulded archway, moulded plaster coving, high-quality panel doors with moulded surrounds, a dado rail, and shutters with moulded panels in the ground floor reception rooms. Additionally, there are two fine painted timber chimney-pieces on the ground floor.
