Description

Hollingthorpe Farmhouse is a house dated 1725, featuring hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof supported by brick stacks. It is designed in a simple classical style and consists of two storeys, a cellar, and an attic. The symmetrical facade has five bays, with raised quoins, a plinth, and lintel bands. The doorway is adorned with an architrave, keystone, entablature, and a cornice with an apron that connects to a window with a similar surround. Each bay on both floors has two-light flat-faced mullioned windows with recessed mullions and raised plain surrounds. The gables are coped with kneelers and stacks, while an added bay to the right is of lesser interest.

At the rear, there is a doorway with composite jambs, a chamfered surround, and a decorative dated lintel. To the left, there is an altered window with a three-light window above it. To the right, there is a two-light stair window and a five-light window serving the cellar, ground floor, and first floor, all featuring recessed flat-faced mullions and flush king mullions. The gables also have two-light attic windows.

Inside, the front rooms include deep panelled window seats with raised-and-fielded panels. The dog-leg staircase has finely-turned balusters, and there is a stair leading down to a flat-ceilinged cellar. Several original six-panelled doors with raised-and-fielded panels are present. The roof trusses consist of tie-beams, single angle struts, collars, and a diamond-set ridge.
