Description

The dovecote at Wood Hall, dating from the 17th to 18th century, is part of the service buildings surrounding the main estate. It features traditional stone construction with stone roofs arranged around a courtyard. The main two-storey building at the rear has stone-framed windows, which have been partly altered, and a high carriage door with a cambered arch. One section of this building is used as a dwelling. The yard is enclosed by a wall that includes a lintelled doorway and a carriage gate with altered piers. Attached to this is a low narrow wing, which has also been altered, leading to a square dovecote topped with a pyramidal roof and a finial. Each of the three faces of the dovecote has a small arched opening with a cornice above. This structure is of interest in relation to Wood Hall.
