Description
Wainhouse Tower is a prominent landmark built between 1871 and 1875 by architect I Booth, with completion by R S Dugdale. This tall, octagonal stone structure sits on a square base and was originally constructed for J E Wainhouse to function as a belvedere tower and a chimney for his nearby dyeworks. The tower features an elaborate top with a bracketed gallery and a lantern in two stages, the upper stage being open and capped with an ogee design. It is noted for its curiosity and distinctive presence in the landscape.
