Description
The Royal Public House, formerly known as Westair, is a stone building dating from 1877, designed in a free Gothic style. It has two main storeys and an additional storey featuring gables and stone dormers beneath a hipped slated roof. The façade includes various mullioned and transomed windows, as well as oriel windows. The entrance is flanked by stone hoods on either side. At the rear, there is a single-storey replacement wing that is not of significant interest. The front area has an incomplete balustrade and piers. This building was constructed by J E Wainhouse, a local builder known for the nearby tower and a figure of some local significance.
