Description
The footbridge over the River Calder, located 30 meters north of Lock Number 12 (Rawden Mill Lock) on the Rochdale Canal, dates from around 1800. It features dressed stone voussoirs and a hammer dressed stone parapet, which was renewed in the mid-20th century with concrete coping. The bridge has a single shallow segmental arch, with the parapet curving onto the canal wall. At this location, the canal and river are only separated by the towpath, and the bridge connects the towpath to the Charlestown side of the river. It has group value with Lock Number 12 (Rawden Mill Lock) and Erringden.
