Description
Cooper House Bridge is a road bridge over the Rochdale Canal, built around 1798 for the Rochdale Canal Company. It is constructed of coursed stone and features a segmental arch with quoins and voussoirs. There is a band above the arch, with the stone above it being thinner coursed. The bridge has chamfered ashlar coping, which has been partly renewed. The wing walls curve to the north-east and south-west, ending in piers topped with pyramidal caps. The south-west pier has been removed, and the corner of the bridge has been altered by 20th-century steps. For more information on the history of the canal's construction, refer to Sowerby Long Bridge.
