Description

Cooper House is a farmhouse dating from the first half of the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof. Originally, the house comprised a hall with a partial outshut and a two-storey wing to the rear. The front garden façade dates from the 18th century and features openings with plain stone surrounds. A 20th-century half-glazed porch is positioned to the right of the centre, flanking a two-light window and with three single-light windows above. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars. There are plain gutter brackets, and stacks are located to the right end and left of centre.

At the rear, the left bay, formerly an outshut beneath a catslide roof, has a three-light hollow-chamfered mullion window on the ground floor, and a wall of later build above. The central bay, a projecting gabled wing built of large blocks of stone, features a five-light double-chamfered mullion window on each floor; the first-floor window has a transom and both are under hoodmoulds with carved stops, and most of the lights are leaded. The right bay has a brick outshut, likely from the 18th century, which projects forward. The left return side has three windows on the ground floor, two above, all with projecting cills and sash windows with glazing bars.

Internally, there is a barrel-vaulted cellar. A room in the rear wing has a large chimney, a chamfered spine-beam with run-out stops, and a chamfered doorway in the left wall leading into an 18th-century outshut with a large fireplace and chamfered mantle-shelf.
