Description
Lower Oldfield and the attached barn is a farmhouse and barn, now partly used for accommodation, dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed stone with a stone slate roof and has two storeys and three bays, with the barn projecting at the left end. It features tooled quoins.
The house has a door with a tooled surround located between the first and second bays, set within a pent porch. There are three 5-light flat-faced mullion windows on each floor. The right side has a shaped kneeler and coping, with stacks located at the left end and between the second and third bays.
The barn on the left has a right return that includes a cart-entry with tooled quoins, voussoirs, and a raised keystone, as well as a blocked mistal door with tie-stones at the left end. The first floor of the barn has been converted to accommodation, with windows inserted on all sides around 1980, which are in keeping with the building's character. An accommodation range has been added to the left of the barn, but it is not of special interest. On the right return of the house, there is a blocked door with a taking-in door above.
