Description

The walls, gates, and gate piers in front of the United Reformed Church, along with the attached railings flanking the entrances, were built in 1859. They are constructed from coursed stone and ashlar, featuring cast-iron gates and railings. The gate piers that flank the entrances to the church are made of monolithic ashlar, complete with necking, cornices, and pyramidal caps. The dwarf walls are ramped and topped with pointed ashlar coping, although the railings have been removed. The central gates showcase heavy ironwork, with a bottom rail featuring circles and a lower panel adorned with scroll and leaf motifs. The gates include both single and paired bars decorated with vase, roundel, and acanthus-type motifs, topped with bulbous finials. The railings that flank the balcony to The Manse and Chapel House consist of single and paired bars set on roundels, with bulbous arrow finials. The gate posts are designed with acanthus bases, entasis, and knob finials, while the standards are fluted with entasis.
