Description

SOWERBY BRIDGE SOWERBY LANE SE 0223 SE 0323 (west side), Boulder Clough 11/220 Wall with gatepiers, gates and railings and 2 flights of steps to front of Boulder Clough Bethel Chapel GV II Wall, gatepiers, gates, railings and 2 flights of steps. 1897 as chapel (qv). Coursed squared stone, ashlar coping, wrought- and cast-iron gates and railings. In Arts and Crafts manner. Paired gateways front steep flights of steps up to terrace in front of chapel. Walls have quoins and chamfered coping and rise as piers on either side of gateways, the coping of the right- hand piers rising into semi-circles with flower motif. Railings have rods with twist finials and scrolls flanking standards; gates have paired wavy bars, scrolled panels and scrolled decoration to tops. One lamp standard survives, on pier to left. Wall continues to right, taller and with triangular- sectioned coping stones. Included for group value.
