Wall With Gatepiers, Gates And Railings And 2 Flights Of Steps To Front Of Boulder Clough Bethel Chapel

The wall with gatepiers, gates, railings, and two flights of steps in front of Boulder Clough Bethel Chapel was built in 1897. It is made of coursed squared stone with ashlar coping, featuring wrought- and cast-iron gates and railings designed in an Arts and Crafts style. The paired gateways lead up steep flights of steps to a terrace in front of the chapel. The walls have quoins and chamfered coping, rising as piers on either side of the gateways. The coping on the right-hand piers rises into semi-circles adorned with a flower motif. The railings include rods with twist finials and scrolls flanking the standards, while the gates feature paired wavy bars, scrolled panels, and decorative scrolls at the tops. A single lamp standard remains on the left pier. The wall continues to the right, where it is taller and has triangular-sectioned coping stones. This structure is included for its group value.
