Description
This is a house and added cottage, now divided into three dwellings. The main part of the house dates back to the 17th century, with a later cottage added in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof. It originally comprised two bays with a through passage, a cross wing to the left, a wing projecting from the rear left, and a cottage added to the rear right.
The south front of the main range features, on the right, a half-glazed door within a chamfered quoined surround, and deep lintel. To its left is a small two-light fire window, and beyond that an eight-light window (now reduced to four lights) with a king mullion under a dripmould. The dripmould has heartstops on both the right and left sides, although the right stop has been removed. To the right of the door is a two-light window with a removed mullion, and a similar window that has been converted into a doorway, both under a continuous dripmould with heartstops. The first floor has two three-light windows to each bay; the left pair have renewed mullions, while the right pair have no mullions and cemented sills. There is a shaped kneeler and coping to the right, and a ridge stack. The cross wing has a five-light window (now two lights) with a door inserted to the right and a four-light window (now two lights) above. It also has gable coping and a ridge stack.
At the rear, the through-passage doorway has a chamfered, quoined surround, and an inserted window above. The wing projecting to the right has an added porch, renewed flat-faced mullions to the ground-floor window, two inserted windows above, and gable coping. The right return of this wing features a gutter spout, and a six-light window with removed mullions and now five lights under a dripmould with a circle and heartstop, above which is a four-light window (now two lights). The cross wing features an added outshut and a former three-light window above. The projecting cottage has an added privy range (which is not of special interest), a blocked light to the right, and a two-light flat-faced mullion window above. An eaves stack is on the right.
The left return of the cross wing has a five-light flat-faced mullion window on the ground floor and a four-light window above. The right return of the main range has ground-floor windows of four lights (with removed mullions) and two lights under a decoratively-stopped hoodmould, and a first-floor window of four round-arched lights. The cottage on the right has quoins, a 20th-century door in a plain stone surround to the right of a flat-faced mullion window (with removed mullions), and a similar five-light window (now three lights) above. The interior has not been inspected.
