Description
Hey End Farmhouse is a farmhouse and cottage that have been combined into one house. The building features a quoin dated 1777 and incorporates earlier elements. It is constructed from coursed squared stone and has a slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a two-bay house on the left that has a partial rear outshut, and a one-bay cottage on the right that has a gable entry. The building has raised quoins, and between the right-hand bays is a 20th-century half-glazed door to the house set in a raised plain stone surround. There are three-light flat-faced mullion windows in raised surrounds. On the right side, there is an added quoined lean-to porch that covers and provides access to the cottage doorway. The roof features chamfered coping and gable finials, with two ridge stacks.
At the rear, the building has quoins, one of which is dated. The outshut is quoined and has a wide window with a renewed chamfered lintel in its left return, along with a two-light flat-faced mullion window above it. To the left of this, the main range has a blocked two-light window on the ground floor, a blocked taking-in door, and a small light above. On the left return, there is a blocked two-light chamfered mullion window on the first floor.
Inside, both the house and cottage feature chamfered spine beams, with those in the house being scarf-jointed, indicating the former presence of a bressumer and firehood. The cottage has a large stone fireplace with a chamfered ledge.
