Description

Pex Tenements is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a kitchen wing added to the rear in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of large dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has a 'T' shaped plan and is two storeys high. The front has three rooms, each with double chamfered mullioned windows on the ground floor and chamfered mullioned windows on the first floor, though some mullions are missing. There is a notable 4-light window with a 6-light housebody window above it, as well as a doorway with a straight lintel, composite jambs, and a chamfered surround, which includes a single light with a projecting surround above. The building has stacks at each gable and one additional stack forming a hearth passage plan. Stone gutter brackets are also present.

The added rear wing is made of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins and is two storeys high, featuring a coped gable with kneelers. The east face has a 4-light chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor next to a lean-to, which has a 4-light flat faced mullioned window above it. The west face includes a double chamfered mullioned window of 4 lights (missing 2 mullions) with a 4-light flat faced mullioned window above. There is a blocked first-floor taking-in door on the left side and two stacks on this range. Inside, the building reveals a through passage plan with stop-chamfered reeded spine beams. The rear kitchen features a beehive oven and four hearths beneath a long moulded shelf.
