Description

The war memorial, located opposite Ripponden Post Office, was likely erected around 1922, during a period when many similar monuments were built in the area. It features a rock-faced granite plinth with marble inset slabs, topped by a carved stone statue of a soldier dressed in First World War battle attire. The plinth is designed as a tapering obelisk and includes tablets on all four sides that list the names of those who fell in the wars of 1914-1919 and 1939-1945. The memorial is prominently positioned above the road in the town center.
