Description
This is a gateway and an attached wall located 10 meters north of Clay House in Lighthazles, Soyland, dating from 1690. The gateway is initialled and dated "S C" and features a single-storey wall that includes a 10-light double chamfered mullioned window with decorated label stops and a king mullion. The stone wall is finely dressed and has a cart entry with a monolithic lintel and a chamfered surround to the left of the former window, which also has decorated label stops. This structure serves as the front wall for an agricultural building that has a stone slate roof. At right angles to the wall, parallel with the road, is a segmental arched gateway with skewbacks, composite jambs, and a chamfered surround, all made from similarly dressed stone. The parapet has bases for three ball-finials, although the balls are missing, and the central finial bears an inscription.
