Description

This is a row of approximately twenty houses, dating from around 1830 to 1840. They are situated on Thornton Road, with a return to Kipping Lane, and occupy an important corner location. The buildings are constructed of sandstone, appearing like brick, with a hipped roof covered in stone slate. The roof has moulded eaves, and corniced chimneys. The windows are square-mullioned, with single and two lights, set in squared surrounds. Doorways are framed by squared jambs and feature console brackets supporting shallow cornices. Incised geometric patterns decorate the friezes. Shops at the front of number 482 have pilastered windows and a doorway on the corner.
