Description
No 5 on Lower Kipping Lane is a building that likely originated as part of Kipping House in the 17th or 18th century. It was adapted in the early 19th century into a pair of cottages. The structure is made of sandstone "brick" and features stone slate roofs and corniced chimneys. The front elevation has windows with 2, 3, and 4 light square mullions set in squared surrounds. The doorways are squared jambs, with the left-hand cottage's doorway located at first floor level and accessed by an external flight of steps. The rear elevation retains 2 and 4 light chamfered mullion windows, which have later eared architrave surrounds, as well as an oeuil de boeuf, likely added around the same time as the latter features.
