Main Block To St Paul'S School And School Houses Including Numbers 5 And 7 Church Street

The main block of St Paul's School and the school houses, including numbers 5 and 7 Church Street, were built around 1870-1880. This High Victorian Gothic structure features two and three storeys and is situated on an island site. It is constructed from sandstone with ashlar dressings. The design includes crossways, mullioned windows, and a large plate tracery colonetted window in the cross wings. There is a tower porch with lancet windows, a short broached octagonal belfry, and a machicolated base supporting a small slate spire. The pair of school houses to the north are two storeys high, featuring a double gabled break and canted bays. They have paired windows with four-centred arched lights, set back flanking entrance bays with three-light mullioned windows, and four-centred arched doorways. Both the school and the school houses have steeply pitched roofs covered with shaped slates and overhanging eaves.
