Description
The premises occupied by Sharp and Law, built around 1905, are Baroque-style offices featuring a large, two-storey symmetrical front with nine bays and shallow one-bay wings on either side. The building is constructed of sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings, showcasing massive rustication at the basement and plinth levels. It has long and short quoins, a bold bracketed cornice, and an ashlar parapet that rises over the wings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and includes a central cupola with a clock turret, which has an entablature that projects at the corners, supported by Doric columns. The large windows are framed with architrave surrounds, while the ground floor windows of the wings feature open pediments and large keystones. The central entrance portal is accentuated by rusticated Ionic pilasters and an open segmental pediment. The front elevation is the most notable aspect of this building, which was originally constructed as a works.
