Description
Nos 49 and 50 Southfield Square are two houses built around 1855, added to the end of the west range of the square. They are two-storey structures made of sandstone "brick" and feature two bay fronts with a plinth. A thin ashlar string defines the frieze, and there is a flat soffit ashlar eaves cornice. The roofs are covered with slate, and there are corniced chimney stacks. Each house has two windows on the first floor, which are revealed 15th century sashes with ashlar lintels. On the ground floor, there is one tripartite window with plain squared ashlar dividers and an ashlar lintel. The doorways have round-headed architrave surrounds with vermiculated keys, set in a plain surround with a frieze and cornice above.
