Description

Nos 163 and 165 Lumb Lane are a pair of houses with shops, built around 1850 and part of the same development as Southfield Square. They are two storeys high and constructed from thin sandstone "brick". The buildings feature a shallow ashlar frieze and a moulded stone gutter-cornice. The slate roof is topped with corniced chimney stacks. No 163 has a three-bay front that includes an archway leading to the back street on the south side of Southfield Square, while No 165 has a two-bay front. Both properties have small shop fronts, with No 163 retaining a pilaster frame and consoles flanking the fascia. The first floor windows are plain, with ashlar lintels and later 19th century and modern glazing. Each doorway is topped with a pediment supported by scrolled consoles. These buildings are included for their group value.
