Description

St Paul's School, located south of the church, was built in 1847 and is attributed to James Greenhalgh. The school is constructed from well coursed and squared stone and features a hipped slate roof. It is a single-storey building with a three-window range and a central entrance. The entrance has a four-centred arched door with a hoodmould, situated in a porch that includes a blocking course. On either side of the entrance are tall windows, which are 24-pane sashes set in chamfered four-centred arched architraves, each with drop-ended hoodmoulds. Above the porch is a blind window space that is inscribed with the name, date, and initials 'I.H.A.'. A bellcote is present on the gable. To the right, there is a two-storey, two-window range that has 12-pane sash windows. The interior has not been inspected. This school is part of the model factory community established by James Ashworth.
