Description
Falcon Mill is a cotton spinning mill built in 1903 by G Temperly for Falcon Mill Ltd. The structure is made of brick with yellow brick bands and features a flat roof along with internal concrete and steel construction. It stands six stories tall and consists of nine by eight bays, with a tower located in the south-west corner. Each bay has three large flat-headed windows, while the shorter north elevation has two windows, all featuring yellow and blue brick lintels and stone sills. The tower is adorned with terracotta dressings and has a steep pavilion roof behind a parapet. There is a canopy over a modified loading bay on the south elevation, which includes an added lift tower. A projecting block at the south-east corner may contain remnants of the original engine house and boiler house, although it is largely from the later 20th century. A privy tower extends from the north-east angle, and there is a two-storey card room extension along the eastern side of the mill. The chimney is offset to the south-east of the site, and the entrance lodge next to the site entrance on the west has been heavily modified. The interior has not been inspected, but it is reputed to be one of the first mills equipped with concrete filler joist floors, although the internal structure has been altered.
