Description
St Paul's Community Centre, originally St Paul's Primary School, is a school building now serving as a community centre, constructed around 1830 to 1850. It is built of Flemish bond brick with stone dressings and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with ventilators and a brick stack at the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan with a rear right wing.
The exterior is two storeys high and has six first-floor windows. The long front elevation facing the street includes a slightly projecting central bay with a pediment, featuring a semicircular arched window above a cornice. The ground floor has a 4/4 sash window set in a moulded architrave, with an inscription panel above it. To the right, there is a two-window range, and to the left, a three-window range, both with 2/2 pane sashes. The ground floor sashes are set in raised stone architraves with console brackets that align with the storey band. There is also a later 19th-century lean-to on the left side of the front, which has fish-scale tiles and a segmental-arched door. The left and right elevations of the building have similar three-window arrangements. The rear wing features a semicircular stone arch with a drip mould over a blocked entry to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
