Description

This is a circa 1800-1820 block of cottages located on Thornton Road, with return fronts facing Brighouse and Denholme Roads. The cottages are constructed of sandstone which has a brick-like appearance, and have stone slate roofs. Decorative features include pairs of spaced dentil brackets to the eaves and prominent kneelers projecting over the eaves. Corniced chimneys are present. The windows are square mullion windows of single and three-light design, set within squared surrounds. Number 1195 features a deep and narrow two-storey canted stone bay window with square mullions dividing the lights. The doorways have squared jambs; number 3 has a corniced doorway dating from circa 1840-1850.
