Description
No. 8 Main Street is a house dated 1766 and marked with the initials "WSS". It is built from hammer-dressed stone and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of two cells. The corners are accentuated with quoins. The central doorway is framed by a deep lintel and composite jambs. On either side of the doorway, there are two-light flat-faced mullioned windows on each floor. The windows on the left are wider and have slightly recessed mullions with an inner chamfer, while those on the right do not have mullions. Between the first-floor windows, there is an arched recess with a false impost and keystone, which holds the date stone. The gables are coped and have kneelers and stacks. At the rear, there is a doorway with a chamfered surround. The left-hand return wall features a blocked taking-in door with composite jambs at the first floor.
