Description
Hawthorn House is a house that has been divided into two separate occupations. It originated in the 18th century and was extended and refronted in the early 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and includes a plinth, raised quoins, a band, and window surrounds.
No 9 has three symmetrical bays. Its doorway is adorned with pilasters and a triangular open pediment that has a radial fanlight above it. The windows are 16-paned sashes with plain stone surrounds. Attached to the right is No 9A, which has a doorway with monolithic jambs and a single bay of windows, with sashed windows on the first floor. The house has coped gables with kneelers and a stack, along with another stack on the ridge.
At the rear, there is a central stair window with a semicircular-arched head, complete with an impost block and keystone. Some mid-20th century windows have been inserted at the rear, which do not match the original style of the building. The quoins to the right of the doorway with a flat-arched lintel suggest the building's 18th-century origins.
