Description
High House is a house that was initially built and dated "WBS" in late 1752, with alterations and extensions made in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is attached to a possibly earlier 17th-century cottage to the east. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high and features a three-bay, double-gabled frontage with an "H" shaped roof and a central doorway that is protected by a porch. On either side of the doorway are tripartite sashed windows. The first-floor windows have shouldered architraves and keystones. The central bay is set back, while the outer bays have rusticated quoins and a cornice that creates open pedimented gables with coping and ball finials. At the rear, there are three-light windows with chamfered mullions and a doorway with a date stone above it. The left-hand return wall features a lateral stack with quoined flues and shaped offsets, along with other stacks. There are also two bays of windows with architraves that retain 12-paned sashes.
