Description

Number 148 is a house dating from around 1830, constructed of dressed stone with ashlar dressings. It features a stone slate roof that has a single ridge and a single gable stack. The building has raised ashlar quoins and an eaves band. It is two storeys high with a two-window front. The off-centre doorway has a six-panel door with a raised ashlar surround and is flanked by single glazing bar sash windows. To the left of the main entrance is a through passage door, also with a raised ashlar surround. Above the doorway are two additional glazing bar sashes, all of which have raised ashlar surrounds and 16-pane sashes.

Inside, the sitting room features an original marble fireplace and an iron gate, with flanking cupboards that have original lower panel doors. The dining room retains its original wooden painted fireplace and iron gate, and to the left is a round-headed cupboard with original raised and field panel doors. The staircase has a single flight and return, with stick balusters, a moulded handrail, and turned round newel posts. The ground floor front windows have raised and fielded panels below. The upstairs bedrooms still have their original painted fireplaces with iron gates, and the main bedroom includes a cupboard with original panel doors. Most doors in the house are six-panel with moulded surrounds. The kitchen retains its original range outside.

At the street, there is a low ashlar wall topped with ornate spearhead railings and a gate. The corners of the wall feature single square ashlar piers with panel fronts and flat tops.
