Description

The former craft block at Carlton-Bolling School, dated 1899, is a two-storey building constructed in the Renaissance Revival style. It features rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings and hipped slate roofs, along with two external coped side wall stacks. The building has a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and an eaves cornice.

The facade includes ten windows arranged in a 4:2:4 pattern. The ground floor has regular fenestration with flat-headed windows that have stone cross mullions. The first floor is highlighted by a central bay flanked by rusticated pilasters, featuring two larger round-arched windows with stone cross mullions under a shaped gable that includes an inscribed datestone and ball finials. The first-floor windows have rusticated segmental heads with keystones and wooden cross-mullions.

On the left return, there are two flat-headed transomed windows, with two round-arched windows above. The right return has similar fenestration, with single first-floor windows. At the rear, there is a square two-storey projection with an elaborate shaped parapet and a shouldered central gable. The symmetrical front has six windows, alternating larger and smaller central windows on each floor, with a blank section to the right and a window with an inserted door to the left, along with a similar window above. Beyond this, there are four larger windows on each floor, also featuring wooden cross mullions.

Inside, there is a stone dogleg stair with a glazed brick dado. The classrooms have matchboard dadoes and exposed steel cross beams, with some 20th-century partitions present.
