Description
Boldshay Hall, dating to around 1740, is a hall situated on Byron Street. The sandstone "brick" elevation is two storeys high and features rusticated quoins marking five bays. Details include a plinth, a moulded stringcourse, a moulded stone eaves cornice with shaped kneelers above coped gable ends covered with stone slate, flanking chimneys, and five windows arranged symmetrically around a doorway. The windows are set within moulded stone architraves and now have modern glazing, with moulded sills supported on block brackets. The doorway has a pediment and a Gibbs surround, topped with a large, triple keystone. A notable feature is its survival as a house of this period in an area largely built up in the later 18th century. The interior has been significantly altered in the 19th century; the staircase is an open string design with turned balusters that sweep into the handrail.
