Description
Douglas Primary School is a school building constructed around 1885. It is made of red brick with terracotta decorations and features hipped plain tile roofs, along with various coped side wall stacks. The basement and retaining wall are built from rockfaced Bulwell stone. The building showcases a Renaissance Revival style, characterized by a plinth, moulded sill bands, and shaped coped gables with pediments.
The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes, featuring segment or round-arched heads with moulded keystones. The structure consists of two storeys plus a basement. The main range is symmetrical, with a recessed centre that includes eight windows and two gabled dormers. The projecting end bays each have two windows and similarly shaped gables. The link section has two windows and irregular fenestration. The corner block to the left contains two windows on each floor beneath a shaped gable. The left return has three windows on each floor and a doorway with an overlight to the left. The basement features an off-centre doorway. The rear wing, which has nine windows, includes through-eaves dormers with paired windows at each end.
