Description
38 Collegiate Crescent is a house, now a department of Sheffield Hallam University, built around 1870. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a steeply pitched slate roof. The building is designed in the Tudor Revival style and includes two external gable stacks and a large single ridge stack. Notable architectural details include a plinth, quoins, and coped gables.
The house has two storeys plus attics and a four-window range. The main block features three wooden cross casements, and below these are two similar casements flanked on the right by a Tudor arched door with an overlight and a hoodmould. All windows have label moulds. To the right, there is a slightly projecting gable with a single cross casement and above it, a lancet window with glazing bars and a hoodmould. Below this gable is a canted stone bay window with a crenellated parapet and a cross casement. The left return of the building has two small windows and above, a single window set into the stack, all featuring label moulds. Below, there is a half-round bay window with a parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
