Description
No. 36 Collegiate Crescent is a house that now serves as a department of Sheffield Hallam University. It was built around 1870 and has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and late 20th century. The building features coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and a Westmorland slate roof. It has a single ridge, a single valley, and a single side wall with coped stone stacks. Notable architectural details include a plinth, quoins, a first-floor band, and fretted bargeboards.
The house is two storeys tall with garrets and has a three-window range. To the right, there is a projecting gabled wing with a smaller gable to its left, which forms a two-storey porch. The porch contains a wooden cross casement window. The gable to the right features a square 20th-century window, with a single sash window above it in the garret. Below the porch, there are wooden posts with chamfered edges linked by an arched beam that has Gothic tracery above, all covered by a flat hood with a dentilled cornice. The entrance has a 20th-century door with sidelights.
To the right of the porch, there is a canted hipped bay window with a three-light cross casement. To the left, there is a set-back bay with a square 20th-century window above and a four-light cross casement below. The left return of the building has a single window on the upper floors and a canted bay window below, which also features a three-light cross casement. The interior has not been inspected.
