Description
40 Collegiate Crescent is a house that now serves as a department of Sheffield Hallam University. It was built in the mid-19th century, with late 19th-century additions and late 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with an ashlar front and dressings, topped by a hipped slate roof featuring two brick side wall stacks. It has a plinth, a first-floor sill band, corner pilasters, and renewed wooden eaves. The house is two storeys high and has a five-window range of plain sashes. The projecting center is topped by a pediment and features a single window with a cornice on brackets. There is a restored pedimented Ionic portico that includes a glazed door and overlight. On either side, there are late 19th-century canted stone bay windows with panelled parapets and three plain sashes. The returns are blank. The interior has not been inspected.
