Description
Collegiate Hall is a house that now forms part of Sheffield Hallam University. It was built in 1835, with some additions and alterations made in the early 20th century, likely by the architect Weightman. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with various altered stacks. It is designed in the Jacobean Revival style, characterized by a plinth, a first floor band, moulded eaves, and coped gables with kneelers and finials.
The structure has three storeys and a three-window range. The windows are mullioned and consist of cross casements with glazing bars and wooden mullions. The triple-gabled front has a recessed central bay featuring a cross casement window with a label mould, and above it, a single light window. Below this is a segmental pointed arched doorway with a label mould, which contains a mid-20th century half-glazed door and an infill panel. The gabled flanking wings have a three-light cross casement window and, above, a two-light mullioned window, with a three-light cross casement below. All these windows also have label moulds.
On the right return, there are two storeys with a cross casement window on each floor to the left. To the right, there is a projecting gable with a three-light mullioned window and a smaller two-light window above, both featuring label moulds. Below, there is a square stone bay window with a crenellated parapet and a four-light cross casement. Inside, the hall features a dogleg wooden stair with turned balusters.
