Description

Numbers 4-20 and 20A on Clarkehouse Road in Sheffield are a group of nine houses, one of which is divided, built around 1845 with some alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The houses are constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs supported by eleven brick stacks. They have a plinth, wooden eaves gutter, and single coped gables. The buildings are two storeys high and have a total of fourteen windows.

The windows are adorned with brick flat arches and corbelled sills. The house on the left has two windows, featuring a wooden cross casement on the left and a twelve-pane sash on the right. Below this, there is a pilastered doorcase with a cornice and a four-panel door with an overlight. To the right of the door, there is a small inserted plain sash and a larger plain sash. The remaining houses are arranged in symmetrical three-window compositions, with the central first-floor windows primarily being two-light casements, while the others are mainly plain sashes. Below these windows, there are central paired doorcases with pilasters and cornices, flanked by single windows, mostly plain sashes.

Each house has stone steps leading up to a landing, which is enclosed by a brick retaining wall topped with wrought-iron railings. The interior has not been inspected.
