Description
This is a milepost located approximately 50 metres west of the entrance to Maltby Colliery, dating from the late 19th century. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge. The milepost is constructed from cast iron and is fixed on a gritstone pillar. It features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel reads "BAWTRY & TINSLEY / ROAD / MALTBY." The left side indicates distances to Sheffield (14 miles), Tinsley (10 miles), and Rotherham (7 3/4 miles). The right side shows distances to Bawtry (7 miles) and Tickhill (3 1/4 miles).
