Description
No. 47 on Clayfield Road is a tower mill that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-18th century and was transformed into a dwelling in 1793. The building is constructed from handmade red brick in English bond, sitting on a rubble sandstone plinth, with the roof not visible. It features a truncated three-storey cone shape, with a front porch and a single-storey, concentric lean-to added to the rear. The windows are renewed wood casements with projecting stone sills and segmented brick arches. The central porch has a part-glazed door and a segmental arch, topped with embattlements. There are windows to the left and at the centre of the first floor, along with a small window to the first floor on the left. A brick corbel-table is located beneath a cogged band, and the building is finished with stone-coped embattlements. There are four windows on the right return.
