Description
This building is a combination farmbuilding, now used as a poultry house and piggery, dating from the early 19th century. It was constructed for the Wentworth estate and features dressed sandstone with brick at the rear, topped by a Westmorland slate roof that has been partly replaced with Welsh slate. The structure is single storey and has an elongated range with a continuous blind arcade consisting of 30 elliptically-arched openings. The right third of the arcade has 20th-century recessed infill and includes a horizontal-sliding door in the two end bays. On the far left, there are two doors beneath a large casement window. The adjacent bays of the arcade, which were originally a cart shed, still have bollards at the bases of the piers; the openings in these bays are now boarded above a plinth wall. The remaining bays mostly retain their original wallstone infill, featuring an irregular rhythm of doors with overlights, original windows beneath flat arches (some of which have been infilled), and blind windows. The building has an eaves band and a hipped roof with some rooflights and ridge ventilators. Despite alterations, it remains an important part of the planned farm complex.
