Description
This is a combination farmbuilding, originally designed as a shelter shed or cart-shed with a dovecote above, now serving as calf pens with a hayloft. It dates from the mid-19th century and was built for the Wentworth Estate. The structure is made of dressed sandstone, with some areas roughcast, and features a Welsh slate roof. It stands two storeys high and consists of six bays. The end walls project as piers to support the deeply overhanging eaves.
The ground floor was originally open-sided, with the upper wall supported by cast-iron columns and a beam. The openings have since been infilled with brick and stone slabs, each fitted with a boarded door leading to small loose boxes. The upper wall is roughcast and includes a single row of round-headed pigeon holes, along with a central boarded door. At the rear, there is a ground-floor doorway and a deep ledge at the first-floor level with pigeon holes above it. A cast-iron frame surrounds a lancet window over the door, and the eaves continue to overhang.
Inside, the nesting boxes have been removed. The attached farmbuildings are not of special interest. This building is part of a planned farm complex.
