Description
The fountain and pool, located in the center of the Stable Block quadrangle, date from around 1775, coinciding with the later stages of the Stable Block's construction. The structure features ashlar sandstone and a stuccoed brick plinth, with a large circular pool that has a central fountain. The pool is surrounded by a moulded dwarf wall that forms its rim, and four ashlar blocks create steps around the edge. The rendered pool-lining connects to a tapered pedestal and the flared foot of a giant, moulded fountain-bowl. At the time of the last survey, the fountain was not in working order.
