Description

This pair of cast iron urns is located at the north end of Wentworth Woodhouse's west front and dates from the early 19th century. They are garden ornaments made of cast iron and sit on square-sectioned ashlar plinths. Each urn is designed in the shape of a vase with a square base, featuring a fluted foot and a gadrooned bowl adorned with handles that emerge from the heads of satyrs. The neck of each vase originally had applied cast-iron decoration of rosettes surrounded by foliage, and they have a flared rim with bead-moulding. The urns were noted to be damaged and incomplete at the time of the resurvey. They are included for their group value.
